Here’s a recently completed commission, an official Artist Proof sketch card from the Marvel: Heroes & Villains trading card set produced by Rittenhouse Archives. This card was based on the Inferno storyline that ran through the X-Men books and features Madelyne Pryor in her Goblin Queen form against Jean Grey back when she was known as Marvel Girl. It was one of my favourite storylines and I loved all the characters, so this was a total pleasure to work on –
The official Marvel Artist Proof cards from Rittenhouse are uncut sketch cards so they come in at 4″ x 5″ instead of the traditional 2.5″ x 3.5″ – gives you a little bit more room to play with than normal, but not a lot! For size reference check out this photo –
I’m very pleased to announce that I have uploaded my first video to my new YouTube channel!
The actual video is of me working on a sketch card of the Deception Knock Out from the Transformers Prime animated series. I loved the series and Knock Out was definitely a stand-out character from the show.
I actually drew and filmed this a few years ago, it was filmed on my old mobile phone and I had to stop every 20 minutes or so as it would run out of memory. Then once I had filmed it I realised my computer was too old and I couldn’t actually open the files to edit the footage, let alone upload it to YouTube! Luckily I have upgraded my computer since then and I thought this video would be a great way to start my channel.
Now I still have no idea what I’m doing when it comes to YouTube and making videos, so expect some teething problems as I learn and improve, but I am hoping that this is something that I can continue with and have fun doing.
The site is still a work in progress but it’s getting there slowly – time to get everything done is always the issue over here as it all revolves around the artwork and then everything else has to work itself out in between projects.
Anyway, enough babbling! On to the new artwork –
For a while now I have been wanting to experiment further with layering techniques using coloured pencils (Polychromos, Prismacolors and Luminance are my go to pencils depending on what I’m working on). I’ve also had the urge to do some Star Wars artwork and specifically Darth Maul. So I combined the two, took a little time and came up with this –
It did take some time to get the effect that I was after, but I believe it was worth it as I am very happy with the results and I’m looking forward to being able to do some more experimenting with the pencils in the near future. Maybe I’ll do some more Star Wars pieces to compliment this one. I do have a few characters in mind actually. 🙂
